Summer Gales

Summer is what you call a different drummer,
She’s not what you’d call typical.
Her head is in the clouds and her world is a dream,
a brilliant mind with strange thoughts,
There’s more to her than what she seems.

She’s tall and willowy with freckles covering her face,
Every time you see her she has got a smile,
her light brown eyes always looking like she came from a daze.
She trips over her long legs and should never be trusted with fragile objects,
you’d never think she did ballet for 5 years.

She does her ginger hair in every style in the book,
she must wake up at dawn to come up with something new everyday,
never too many clips, never too many ties or ribbons, never too many looks.
Or there will be a time when she just hopped out of bed and didn’t bother to brush it;
she nearly burned her hair off trying to give herself a perm,
However she enjoyed having a buzz cut for 3 months.
She goes through a ritual putting a different color streaks once a month,
I don’t know how she does it,
she turns her hair into art and it never gets old.

Her entire wardrobe consists of hand-me downs she got from her mama and granny,
from worn down bellbottom pants to a silk flapper dress,
and then she’ll occasionally wear an ensemble that was in style in the early to mid 19th century.
She will look like she came out of a fashion museum.
She hates the latest trends,
fashion magazines to her are like the plague.
She is obsessed with jewelry of every kind;
she loves dressing from different time periods.
Never ask her where she gets her outfit,
her answer will only be vague.

Her birthday is on the 4th of July and loves the smell of Christmas trees,
She shaved her head and dressed up as a Xiaolin monk for Halloween in 6th grade.
She thinks Valentine’s Day is a myth;
she despises ketchup and the color pink of every single shade.

She’s afraid of cobra snakes like Indiana Jones,
She loves home movies and doing her own stunts,
as a result she has broken twelve bones.
She likes waving to random people on the street,
she picks up stray cats who never found their way home,
she believes shoes are for squares and walks around in bare feet.

She went to the winter dance in a royal purple cocktail dress and combat boots,
She breaks into a spontaneous dance or song in the halls.
She picks herself every time she falls,
She loves watching the clouds pass by.
She tries her best to put a smile on everybody’s face,
ask her a question about anything and she’ll never lie,
I heard she fainted when she heard her father died.

She’s fluent in Pig Latin and thinks science is irrational,
whatever she defines as boring she will become completely oblivious to.
She beats the gym teacher in dodge ball,
and has a tendency to root for the opposing team.
She likes to make the teachers confused,
and answers questions with song lyrics.
Her IQ is a little over 200 and tried to pursue a career in mime.
She’ll be a person worthy of the history books in time.

Summer is a young lady beyond her time,
She’s not afraid to let their opinions be known.
She tries to unfold her life,
she’s a story that can never be plagiarized.
A song that is undefined,
She drums to her special beat,
she’s got a rhythm of her own.
